"I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in late December 2005. I felt fine and totally non symptomatic. Upon being given options for treatment, I became very concerned because none of the choices seemed sufficient. Radiation was not a sure cure, and the potential side effects were not worth going down that road. Traditional surgery sounded very difficult with a long recovery and an increased chance of nerve damage which could cause a lifetime of incontinence and potential sexual dysfunction. I started doing hours of research on the web each day. I read everything I could get my hands on pertaining to my condition. I met with and interviewed many different doctors asking as many questions as possible. The outcome was always the same. I was told that the best possible way to insure my health for the future was to rid my body of the cancer via surgery. While discussing treatment options, one of my doctors mentioned laparoscopic, robotic surgery. Evidently this was the most state of the art, minimally invasive way to go. Recovery time is drastically reduced from 6 weeks to a little over a week without a large scar. The procedure is so precise that the chances of any side effects are reduced to almost zero. This was for me. I had finally decided how I would attack the disease that could potentially kill me. My next hurdle was to find the best, most experienced and knowledgeable doctor to perform the surgery.
All my research pointed to Dr. Alexander Gershman, one of the pioneers of this procedure and definitely one of the most experienced. Upon meeting, I knew that my research had paid off. Dr Gershman was the only doctor I would trust with one of the most sensitive and private parts of my body. He assured me that my recovery time would be very minimal and most importantly, my continence and sexual function would be intact. We scheduled the procedure and within two days of the surgery, I was backing home. I stand amazed at how easy, painless and effective laparoscopic, robotic prostate surgery is in the expert hands of Dr. Alexander Gershman. I am writing this testimony in the evening on the 7th day after my surgery. I feel great and was able to work full days in my recording studio both yesterday and today.
